Cuisinart Stand Mixer

When selecting a stand mixer, it is important to consider how it will be used before deciding which brand to buy. For the serious cook—one who makes homemade pasta, bakes bread, or makes large batches of cookies—the Cuisinart Stand Mixer is certainly one to consider.

Cuisinart has been a leader in food processors, cookware, and small kitchen appliances for years. Although their stand mixers are relatively new, they have engineered them to have some excellent features.

The 1,000 watt motor is the most powerful in the field, and packs the power for even the heaviest dough. The Cuisinart Stand Mixer is available with a seven quart bowl (the largest available from any company), and packs a lot of features, including a locking tilt-back head that keeps it from falling back into the bowl (a common occurrence when beaters are heavy with dough).

There are three power ports to connect the optional attachments that will allow even more versatility, from making fresh squeezed juice to homemade pasta. A food processor attachment chops onions without tears; a mincer/grinder makes fresh ground meat; and after attaching the blender, it prepares great frozen cocktails.

The Cuisinart Stand Mixer also features an automatic timer that leaves you free to work on other tasks while the unit completes the chore, and a fold option that allows you to add other ingredients while the unit is running. Twelve speeds let you find just the right speed for the task, and an automatic shut off is a nice safety feature. The attractive unit is available in three colors (chrome, black, and white) and Cuisinart offers a three year warranty (five years on the motor).

A typical day in the life of the Cuisinart Stand Mixer might find it making fresh orange juice and pancake batter for breakfast, and then chopping up a fruit salad for lunch. In between, it can puree baby food prepared just the way Mom wants it, or whip up twelve dozen (or more) homemade cookies.

Weekend duty may include mixing up three meat loaves (one for dinner and two to freeze for later), chopping up vegetables for a quick stir-fry later in the week, or making meatballs to freeze for spaghetti or Swedish meatballs. It can mince the garlic and puree tomatoes for pasta sauce, as well as making the pasta. Easy clean up makes it a snap to switch tasks.

The Cuisinart is not the least expensive stand mixer on the market. Expect to pay between $350 and $500 for the basic unit (attachments are extra), depending on where it is purchased and whether the vendor is running a sale. (This is one item that is worth going online for, as prices vary considerably; in addition, you can often find a new or scarcely used one available from an individual on one of the online auction sites.) But for the serious cook, it is an investment in quality that will pay for itself not only in money but in the time saved.

For anyone who likes to prepare nutritious, tasty meals and treats—and spend less time doing it— Cuisinart Stand Mixer is the ultimate, do-it-all tool.
